What makes this private tour unique?
For the admirers of Herodotus History Greek Persian Wars this tour will give you the opportunity to visit the battlefields of 6 major battles. We visit the Battle Fields: Marathon 490 BC – Thermopylae 480 BC – Chaeronia 338 BC – Leuctra 371 BC – Plataea 479 BC – Perama / Salamis 480 BC Between we visit Delphi on mount Parnassus and we will stay for overnight. The Oracle of Delphi was the most prestigious religious institution in ancient Greece, serving as the primary sanctuary for the god Apollo. Located on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, it was considered the “Omphalos” (navel) or center of the world. Visit at you leisure the sites of Apollo and Athena sanctuaries, Museum, take a break for lunch/ dinner in a restaurant balcony with a panoramic view of the olive grove valley and the Corinthian Gulf. Like all vacations in Greece local food is high in our list of things to do, we will taste local gastronomy and wines. Itinerary/ Route - Highlights /Photos
1st Day: Departure time at 07:30 am. Pick up from your location (see additional pick up details)
A) Marathon: The Marathon Battle: 490 BC on the plains of Marathon, near Athens.
- Combatants: Athenian citizens (aided by Plataea) vs. the invading Persian Empire (under Darius I).
- The Battle: Outnumbered Greeks (roughly 11,000) used superior, heavy-armored phalanx tactics to crush the Persian army (approx. 45,000+), forcing them to flee to their ships.
B) Thermopylae: The Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC) was a legendary “last stand” where a small Greek force, led by King Leonidas I and his 300 Spartans, blocked a massive Persian invasion for three days
- The Chokepoint: The Greeks used the narrow “Hot Gates” pass to nullify the Persians’ overwhelming numerical advantage (estimated at ~7,000 Greeks vs. 120,000–300,000 Persians).
- The Betrayal: On the third day, a local named Ephialtes showed the Persians a mountain path that allowed them to outflank the Greeks.
- The Final Stand / Kolonos Hill: This is often the most moving part of the site. It is the small hill where the last remaining Spartans and Thespians retreated and died fighting.
C) Mount Parnassus/ Delphi: Archaeological site & Museum. Visit at you leisure the sites of Apollo and Athena sanctuaries and Museum. Overnight on slopes of mount Parnassus.
2nd Day. Departure time from Hotel after breakfast.
D) Delphi. We proceed to archaeological and finish the sightseeing if we did not have enough time the previous evening.
- The Pythia: The title held by the high priestess who acted as Apollo’s mouthpiece. She delivered cryptic, poetic prophecies (oracles) while seated on a bronze tripod in the temple’s inner sanctum.
- Athena’s Tholos: Situated in the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia (“Athena before the Temple”), located about half a mile southeast of the main Temple of Apollo. Today, three of its original columns have been re-erected, making it one of the most photographed ruins in Greece.
E) Chaeronea: The Battle of Chaeronea was fought in 338 BC, near the city of Chaeronea in Boeotia, between Macedonia under Philip II and an alliance of city-states led by Athens and Thebes. The Macedonian heavy cavalry was led by the eighteen-year-old crown prince Alexander.
F) Leuctra: The Battle (371 BC): A decisive conflict where Theban forces, led by Epaminondas, defeated the Spartans.
G) Plataea: Battle of Plataea (479 B.C.): Led by the Spartan Pausanias, Greek hoplites defeated the Persian forces of Mardonius, marking the end of the Persian wars on the Greek mainland.
H) The Battle of Salamis (480 BCE) was a pivotal naval conflict in which a smaller alliance of Greek city-states defeated a much larger Persian flee

For Private Tours: Traveller pickup/drop off is offered from/to your hotel/apartment in/ from Athens centre up to 7 km, at the arranged time of your tour departure or your tour return. We recommend that the tour starts at 07:30 am or earlier in summer time. If for any reason this is not convenient, you can adjust the time according to your needs.
- Additional charges may applicable *25€ per way from longer pickup/drop off locations, more than 7 km from Athens city center.

Parnassus mount & Delphi are very popular. *We can arrange accommodation for you in selected Boutique Hotels A’class or 4* Hotels with breakfast (additional from 130€ per double room / weekend-holidays from 160€ per double room / if more than 3 rooms 10% discount. If you wish to do do your own hotel reservation, you need to reserve an extra room for your driver.

Regarding the Daily Tours: Cancellations up to 24 hours before your travel date are 100% refundable as described on Viator/ TripAdvisor.

- Licensed Tour Guides are external co-operators & they have their own cancellation policy.
- Hotels/Bookings are external co-operators & they have their own cancellation policy and after reservation (Booking), refund is not possible
- Apart from the above cancellation limits, refunds will be made:
- If though, you fail to make your appointment for reasons that are out of your hands, that would be, in connection with the operation of your airline or cruise ship or strikes, extreme weather conditions or medical reasons, you will be refunded 50% of the paid amount.
- If your request cancellation date, for multiple day tour is over (3) months away from your reservation date, it has been known for third-party providers have their own cancellation policy, plus credit card companies, PayPal, etc. to charge a levy fee usually somewhere between 2-4%. Behind this there is a demand 10% of the total offer amount for the office service, which is not refundable.
