What makes this private tour unique?
We visit Marathon , Thermopylae and Damasta Monastery as travellers, not as tourists. We get as excited as you to travel, to enjoy the history, scenery & photography.
If you want to see most of Marathon & Thermopylae, then we suggest to combine both sites in a full day private tour. Schedule is flexible, but most importantly we will view the sites from all different angles.
The day starts with a convenient pickup and takes you to the Marathon battle fields, Athenian Tomb, Marathon Bay & Museum. Next we drive via Marathon lake to Thermopylae. Visit the battle fields & King Leonidas Monument, Kolonos hill, Hot springs (Therms) & Interactive Museum. Continue our tour to mount Parnassus, to walk in Anopaia atrapos (This was a path, an impassable secret passage that ended at a very short distance from the third strait of Thermopylae and traitor Fialtis guided the Persian army). We will Visit Damasta Orthodox Monastery from 11 century and see the view from above). See Gallery.
This is a tour strictly for people who love to see the battlefields of Greek Persian Wars, as local museums and of course the scenery (drive is via mountains), there are few ancient ruins to see. Your tour driver provides informative audio documentary & historical details as you travel.
Finish the day with a lunch or dinner in front the sea.

Itinerary/ Route - Highlights /Photos
Phase 1: The Athenian Triumph (Marathon)
The Battle of Marathon (490 BCE) was where the Athenians proved that the Persian Empire was not invincible.
- The Athenian Tomb (Soros): This is a unique site because, contrary to Greek tradition of burying the dead in their home city, the 192 Athenians who fell here were buried on the battlefield to honour their extraordinary bravery.
- Marathon Bay & Battle fields
- Marathon Museum & Marathon Race
- Marathon Lake: A great spot for a scenic break. The dam is actually unique—it is the only one in the world faced entirely with Pentelic marble (the same marble used for the Parthenon).

Phase 2: The Spartan Stand (Thermopylae)Moving to 480 BCE, you’ll visit the site of the famous “300.”
- Leonidas Monument: Look for the inscription “ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ” (Molon Labe), which translates to “Come and take them”—Leonidas’s defiant response to Xerxes’ demand for their weapons.
- Kolonos Hill: This is often the most moving part of the site. It is the small hill where the last remaining Spartans and Thespians retreated and died fighting.
- The Hot Springs: This is where the area gets its name (Thermo = Hot, Pylae = Gates). The water still flows at a steady 40°C (104°F).
- Interactive Museum. Entrance Fee: 5€ (Watch a unique 3D video to understand better the strategic of the famous Battle, as to have a true sense of the topography).
Phase 3: The Secret Path (Anopaia Atrapos)
Walking the Anopaia Atrapos is a rare experience. Most tourists only see the monument, but walking the path of the betrayal gives you a true sense of the topography. See Gallery
- The Traitor’s Route: You will see exactly how the Persians were able to bypass the “Middle Gate” to surround the Greeks.
- Damasta Monastery: Resting on the slopes of Mount Kallidromo, this 11th-century site offers a peaceful contrast to the bloody history of the battlefields below.

For Private Tours: Traveller pickup/drop off is offered from/to your hotel/apartment in/ from Athens centre up to 7 km, at the arranged time of your tour departure or your tour return. We recommend that the tour starts at 07:30 am or earlier in summer time. If for any reason this is not convenient, you can adjust the time according to your needs.
- Additional charge is applicable *25€ per way from longer pickup/drop off locations, more than 7 km from Athens city center.
- *Piraeus Port (distance 12km), *Piraeus Cruise Terminal (Distance 14km)
- This charge does not Include: **Airport (distance 36km) or **Lavrion Port (distance 75km) **This is under prior agreement with the agent’s office
You Have the options of 3 different Vehicles types:
- Sedan (up to 2 adults + 2 kids – up to 10 years old free) –
- Minivan (from 1 to 7 persons – 2 kids/ up to 10 years old free.
- Minibus (from 1 to 14 persons – 2 kids/ up to 10 years old free).
- Price varies by Group Size or Vehicle type.

Your tour is private & flexible and available from/ to Athens or from/ to Nafplio. However we only request to have in mind the agreement hours. But if you like to extend it, please make a fair arrangement with your tour driver/ leader. Additional charge per hour is 30€ (Sedan/SUV) – 45€ (Minivan) – 60€ (Minibus).

Cancellation Policy

Regarding the Daily Tours: Cancellations up to 24 hours before your travel date are 100% refundable as described on Viator/ TripAdvisor.
Cancellation Policy:
- Licensed Tour Guides are external co-operators & they have their own cancellation policy.
- Hotels/Bookings are external co-operators & they have their own cancellation policy and after reservation (Booking), refund is not possible
- Apart from the above cancellation limits, refunds will be made:
- If though, you fail to make your appointment for reasons that are out of your hands, that would be, in connection with the operation of your airline or cruise ship or strikes, extreme weather conditions or medical reasons, you will be refunded 50% of the paid amount.
- If your request cancellation date, for multiple day tour is over (3) months away from your reservation date, it has been known for third-party providers have their own cancellation policy, plus credit card companies, PayPal, etc. to charge a levy fee usually somewhere between 2-4%. Behind this there is a demand 10% of the total offer amount for the office service, which is not refundable.
- See All Views Travel reserves the right to cancel your booking at any time, when reasons beyond our control arise, such as strikes, prevailing weather conditions, medical or pandemic reasons, etc. occur. In this unfortunate case, you shall be immediately notified via the email address you used when making your reservation and your payment will be refunded 100%.
